The course is organized by the Africa Research Centre of the University of Pécs. The newly created 'African Studies in Central and Eastern Europe' (ASiCEE) network and its experts will provide several intriguing insights in a cross- and interdisciplinary manner.

It is designed to look at global African migrations with a focus on an angle which is scarcely dealt with in scientific research, i.e. via Central and Eastern European lenses. From different disciplinary perspectives, we will engage with migration policy on the levels of the EU and the members states, the economy, culture, languages, human security and soft power, together with foreign policies and pragmatism. 

The course sets the goal to investigate the multifaceted and interconnected dimensions of African migrations both in a historical context and in our present time. Case studies will be sewn into the program stemming from the lecturers’ fieldwork experience and research projects over the last couple of decades.

Students will learn and know more about global African migrations, with a focus on contemporary Central European–African connections. They will understand better many of the historical development of such dynamics in the international system. They will get familiar with Central and Eastern Europe from different perspectives.

Students will be able to place Africa, Central Europe and African migrations in the context of global international relations and the several intertwined complexities these migrations represent. They become capable of identifying the connected challenges and build up an analytical framework.

Students will be able to articulate their opinions about African migrations and the Central and Eastern European contexts. Via the case studies presented by the lecturers, they will be sensitized about the African migrations across Central and Eastern Europe.
