Description of the academic program:

This intensive online masterclass is specially designed for professionals working in ministries and government institutions across the African Union. Hosted by the University of Pécs, one of the oldest universities in Central Europe, the program offers a unique opportunity to explore key diplomatic and international topics from a European perspective, with a strong focus on practical application and intercultural understanding. 

Delivered by highly experienced academics and practitioners — some with diplomatic backgrounds — the program blends theory and practice to support the professional development of participants engaged in international affairs and regional cooperation.

Leader of the academic program: Prof. Dr. István Tarrósy, Professor of Political Science and African Studies at the University of Pécs (PTE), Hungary, and Visiting Professor and Faculty at the Center for International Security and Development at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. He is Director of the Africa Research Center and also the International Center of the University of Pécs.

Prof. Dr. István Tarrósy
Full Professor, Director of the International Centre Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

István Tarrósy is a Professor of Political Science and African Studies at the University of Pécs (PTE), Hungary, and Visiting Professor and Faculty at the Center for International Security and Development at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. He is Director of the Africa Research Center and also the International Center of the University of Pécs. He is the head of the Doctoral Program in International Politics at PTE. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the Hungarian Journal of African Studies. He was a Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar at the Center for African Studies of the University of Florida, where he is an affiliate faculty at the Center for Arts, Migration and Entrepreneurship, and was a Japan Foundation Intellectual Fellow at Ryukoku University, Kyoto. 

His latest books include Trust and Trust-Making in Africa’s Global Connections (BRILL) co-edited with M. Kaag and A. Thiel (2025); Selected African Studies in Memory of Zsuzsánna Biedermann (Cambridge Scholars) co-edited with J. Kiss (2024); and Átalakuló világrend – Az unipoláris pillanat vége? (Ludovika) co-edited with Z. Voros (2024).

Dr. Zoltán Wilhelm
Associate Professor Faculty of Sciences

Zoltán Wilhelm is a geographer, associate professor, director of the Asia Centre of the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, University of Pécs, and a lecturer at the Department of Political Geography, Development and Regional Studies. He spent a total of seven years in India under various scholarships and as a visiting professor. He is a member of the editorial board of several Indian journals. Between 2015 and 2019, he was the director of the Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre in Delhi and the cultural counsellor of the Embassy of Hungary. As a cultural diplomat, he worked on deepening relations between India and Hungary. His research field is the study of regional disparity in India. He has published 195 publications, a significant part of them in leading Hungarian and international journals.

 

Dr. habil Andrea Schmidt
Associate Professor Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Dr habil Andrea Schmidt is a political scientist and an Associate Professor at the University of Pécs, Hungary, Department of Political Sciences, and International Studies and a former Visiting Lecturer at the Josai International University, Tokyo, Japan, and at Ivan Franko National University in L’viv, Ukraine. She specializes in International Political Economy and Comparative Political Studies of the Central and Eastern European region. She is the author of several articles and book chapters related to Central and Eastern European and post-Soviet regions. Her field of research covers the problems of political systems, Central and Eastern European studies, political history, geopolitics, geoeconomics. 
She is a member of the advisory board and editorial committee of several domestic and international journals. She contributed and led several international projects supported by the International Visegrad Fund and the European Union. She is currently a Hungarian member of the “Border and Regional Studies Network” international research group, which focuses mainly on Central Europe, and participates in the international research program “Regional Consequences of European Polycrisis: Experiences and Future Scenarios of Visegrád Four Cooperation”.

 

 

Dr. Norbert Sipos
Associate Professor Faculty of Business and Economics

Norbert Sipos, associate professor at the University of Pécs Faculty of Business and Economics, Department of Leadership and Organisational Sciences. He defended his thesis in 2018, titled ‘Graduate Career Tracking practices in Hungary and abroad – Comparison of the Graduate Career Tracking System and the Administrative Databases Integration’. He was habilitated in 2025. Main research interests: Graduate Career Tracking System and Administrative Databases Integration; Labour-market tendencies; SMEs; Entrepreneurship; competitiveness. Since 2009 he has been an active tender, feasibility study, business plan writer and organiser of several national events. From 2009, he was a presidency member of the Alumni of Pécs Graduated Students of Advanced Studies, and he was the president from 2012 to 2019. He also worked as a Director of Internationalisation at the Faculty of Business and Economics between 2022 and 2024. Since then, he has been serving as Deputy Director for European Programmes at the International Centre of the University of Pécs, focusing on the Pannonia Mobility Scheme, Erasmus+ mobilities, MoU-s, IIA-s, and the European Digital University City (EDUC) alliance. 

Dr. Zoltán Vörös
Associate Professor Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Zoltán Vörös is a Habilitated Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor and Academic supervisor of the International Relations BA Program at the Department of Political Science and International Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Pécs and a Senior Research Fellow at John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics at the Ludovika University of Public Service. He is the head of the Indo-Pacific Challenges Research Group at the University of Pécs, a member of several scientific communities, and editor of the Hungarian Journal of African Studies and Polarities academic journals. Was a guest lecturer at Metropolitan State University between 2017 and 2022, and is a regular visiting lecturer at higher education institutions and speaker at international conferences in many countries of the world, and was the organiser of the DRC Summer School from 2008 to 2023, one of the most relevant summer schools of the CEE region. As a lecturer and researcher, he is an expert in international relations and security studies, focusing on China's foreign and security policy and the global implications of its economic rise. His latest academic contributions include an edited book about the Changing Global World Order titled Átalakuló világrend – Az unipoláris pillanat vége? (Ludovika) co-edited with I. Tarrosy.

 

Dr. Gyöngyi Pozsgai
Head of the Study Abroad and Summer School Office

Dr Gyöngyi Pozsgai is the Head of the Study Abroad and Summer School Office at the University of Pécs, Hungary. In this role, she oversees a wide range of short-term international programs, including summer and winter courses, COIL projects, and semester-long study abroad initiatives for incoming students.
She is a highly experienced international education professional with over two decades of expertise in internationalization, marketing, and student recruitment in higher education. Dr Pozsgai holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Pécs, with her research focusing on international higher education marketing.
As a lecturer in intercultural sensitivity and city marketing, she is committed to fostering cross-cultural understanding and effective communication. She is a regular trainer for the European Association for International Education (EAIE) and the Hungarian National Agency, where she contributes to the professional development of international education practitioners.
From 2006 to 2013, Dr Pozsgai served as Secretary General of the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNEeCC). In this capacity, she was responsible for organizing numerous international conferences in various European Capitals of Culture, as well as major international events at the University of Pécs during the city’s tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2010.
